why the Tamarisk Tree?

In Genesis 21:33 when Abraham was finally able to settle in the land of Israel after 25 years of wandering, we find him planting a Tamarisk Tree to commemorate God’s faithfulness to bring him to the Land He promised. A memorial to God’s faithfulness and one that would be around for future generations.

We also find Abraham planting this tree right along the main road next to the well where travelers would be passing by, thus making rest, refreshment, and conversation easy to find.

Trees in general are considered a MEMORIAL when planted as they have a long life span. The Tamarisk tree is especially so as it takes 400 years to come to full maturity. They are also practical in the desert environment as they give off the coolest shade of any tree in that area.

Tamarisk Tree Ministries is a memorial to God’s faithfulness to bring us to where He promises. Our purpose is to make learning about the word of God practical, intentional, and accessible - Just as the Tamarisk Tree did for travelers who got to encounter Abraham on their travels.
